weavermtp copy1March 26, 2013: Today, I am excited to announce that I am running for the Ward One seat on the Council of the District of Columbia in 2014!

As an activist and Ward One resident for more than 20 years, I see the need to ensure change that benefits all residents. As our city continues to rapidly grow and change, it is my deep conviction that all District residents deserve the right to improve and transform their quality of life as well.

Our community of Ward One is the heart of the city and we each envision a prosperous future under the right leadership. Our children need access to excellent education no matter where they live.  All residents need an affordable and safe place to call home.  Our friends and neighbors deserve jobs with more than a living wage. Our young people have a right to resources and guidance that recognize their unlimited potential and offer them prospects that do not make a life of crime an alternative.

We deserve better. Let’s raise the bar of what elected service should be. If elected, I will lead by example.  I will challenge my colleagues at city hall to do the right thing.  We should be able to trust in them. I will ensure that they learn not just to govern but serve our residents.

I'm looking forward to engaging with my Ward One neighbors throughout the next year and bringing their thoughts, ideas and concerns to the forefront.

"The most knowledgeable challenger we have interviewed in the past 16 years." The Current Newspapers.

"He's spent years working with — and for — at-risk kids in Adams Morgan, He's demonstrated both a fierce commitment to fairness for all D.C. residents...and a pragmatism that could keep him from becoming marginalized on the council..." The Washington City Paper.
